Bio
Daniel Friday has lived in the Northwest his whole life, a shining product of the studio glass movement. Friday has cultivated his artistic vision with strong influence from his indigenous roots in the Pacific Northwest. Craft, form and idea drive Dan's work from conception to object. The past two decades working with artists such as Dale Chihuly and Paul Marioni have given Daniel tools and inspiration to develop craft and produce his art. He feels fortunate to have experienced the rich diversity of Seattle for his skill development. Currently Dan's work is in collections around the world.

- Owner / Operator of a small hot shop, gallery, and studio, in Seattle’s historic Fremont district
Dale Chiluly Boathouse Studio 2000-present
- Worked primarily as a glass blower to collaborate with other studio staff on Chilhuly glass designs that involved a full spectrum of studio events and activities. This experience has led to expanded and perfected technical skills in glass working and increased insight into the relationship and interaction between artist and public.
Pilchuck Glass School 2006-present
- Works as a Teacher, Gaffer, and Coordinator for the Hot Shop, and Wood and metals dept. Fabricates and facilitates works for international artists.
James Mongrain 2009-present
- Assisted on many various glass blowing projects, domestically and abroad.
Tacoma Glass Museum 2004-Present
- Worked on specialized team of glass sculptors, demonstrating a variety of methods so as to educate the public about the medium of glass.
- Has worked as an artist in residence in Yosemite Ca. at Spring Hill glass studio. Recent work celebrates the Northwest natural environment and native culture through the use of contrasting and complementary media. Presently working on the “Owls” series, which captures, the essence of the illusive animal. Recent work was exhibited in Taiwan, at the international glass festival. Other work includes designing and producing vases, vessels and massive chandeliers.
- Casting, cleaning, and cold working glass tiles for a large scale installation.
- Collaborated and assisted prominent artists, in the creation of, major glass art commissions and installations. Artists include James Drake , Nicolas Africano, Wendy Maruyama, and Charles Ledray to name a few.
- Taught glass blowing and casting classes
- Active in all facets of large scale , glass production factory from design to maintenance and fabrication of studio equipment.
Personal Artistic Development 1995-1997
- Developed artistic style and vision using a variety of mediums including ceramics, woodwork, printmaking, and metal work. From there, an interest in glass blowing and other glass techniques were developed which led to work at Glass Eye Studio.
Coyote Junior High 1988-1993
- Taught ceramics, furniture making, wood carving, and print making for a summer art program for children with artistic talent and interests.
Central District Mural 1992
- Designed a garden themed mural funded by the city of Seattle to improve the lives of residents within the urban lower economic area. The mural was prepped and painted with the assistance of two other artists.

- 2010 HAUBERG Scholarship Recipient-Studied with Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen, and Jasen Johnsen
- 2001 PONCHO Scholarship Recipient- Cast major glass elements on the Pilchuck Totem Pole. Studied under master carvers John Hagen, Wayne Price, and glass artist Preston Singletary and David Svenson.
- 1999 PONCHO Scholarship Recipient- Studied GRAL glass engraving technique with Jan Mares, world renowned Czech master glass engraver, studied with Curt Brock of the University of Tennessee glass program and Lino Tagliapietra.
- 1998 PONCHO Scholarship Recipient- Studied with Paul Cunningham.
South Seattle Community College 1995
- Mechanic Vocational Degree-Increased knowledge and skills in 3D visualization, welding, physics, metal work, and gravity. Focused on the internal combustion engine with a minor interest in fabrication techniques.
- Attended a special interest alternative art school with a full scholarship. Intense studies, in classical art styles and techniques with a focus on ceramics.
